Countdown to Wesley...pt. 3
Here is the final post in this trilogy. I left off where it was decided that I would spend the night in the hospital. I was a little shocked that I wouldn't be going home that evening; I honestly wasn't feeling the contractions and would never have known that they were occurring if the nurses didn't tell me. So that night at 7:30 I took the third pill that would hopefully slow/stop the contractions and my sister and mom left. My mom had to go home so she could eat and get ready for work the next day. My sister left so she could get me a plate of food (the cafeteria had already closed and I wasn't allowed to eat earlier in case I went into full blown labor) as well as some clothes, toiletries, and my phone charger. She also brought back a blanket and my pillow so hopefully I could sleep better. At about nine, after my sister had left for the evening, I was all alone. I had been in contact with Casey all evening, but with the time difference, I wanted him to sleep so that he could go to class the next morning and not fall asleep. He, however, didn't want to take a sleeping aid in case anything happened and I had to call him. I finally fell asleep but couldn't stay asleep. I was uncomfortable, I kept rolling on my IV or the fetal monitor and there was a low light coming from behind the bed that just was not conducive to getting any kind of good sleep. Also, I was woken up to take my next pill at 1:30 which didn't help either. At about seven, my nurse came in and I was instantly awake, but blind since I didn't have my glasses on. She was just going to check the fetal monitors and my blood pressure before I took my next pill when my doctor came in the room. Thursdays are his surgery day but he came by to check me himself; as long as I hadn't progressed beyond a three and the contractions were slowed down enough and irregular I could go home that morning. Luckily I was still a three and the contractions were slowed way, waaayy down, so I sent a text to everyone that I could go home. Wes was still doing well and I still didn't feel anything so I was happy. I also got to take a shower, which has to go in my top ten showers of all time. I waited for one of my sisters to come pick me up and we got discharged and headed home. I had to pick up my prescription, which I get to take every six hours, but it keeps me pregnant and that is a the goal. My doctor said that under normal circumstances he wouldn't have stopped me from progressing as we were at a point that Wesley is more than healthy enough to be born and be healthy. The only thing that made him want to delay labor is that Casey is out of town. I called out at work for the rest of my shifts so I have been sitting at home since Thursday, going slowly about everything that I do. I am anxiously awaiting the twenty-fifth when Casey gets home. I hope that Wesley can wait for that day as well. I had a follow-up appointment with my doctor on Monday and I am still dilated to a three so that is good. Wesley is still measuring two weeks bigger than his actual age is and is estimated to weigh seven pounds and two ounces. He is kicking and moving well and I haven't had any more worries about him not moving. My belly moves all on it's own, which is awesome and slightly creepy at the same time, but at least he is moving. Like my doctor said, I am still pregnant and that is a good thing. One and a half more weeks until Casey is home...I cannot wait!

Countdown to Wesley...pt. 2
This is the continuation of 'Countdown to Wesley.' Otherwise known as the most stressful week ever.
Wednesday morning I woke up to start getting ready for work and could not feel Wesley moving. My doctor, on the previous day, had said that I should feel him move at least ten times in a two hour period. When I woke up I could not get him to move no matter what I did. Walking around, massaging my belly, eating, nothing I did could get him to move. So, being me, I panicked and called my sister and asked her if I should go to the hospital or call my doctor's office. She said to call the doctor and see what he said, and the office said to go to the labor and delivery department of the hospital I am going to deliver. My sister got home, picked me up, and off we went to Ogden Regional. We got there, got checked in and then they sent me to a room. I had thought that they would check they would check to make sure that Wesley was okay and then I would get to come home. Maybe I would have to stay off of my feet for a while or take the rest of the week off of work, but my guess as to what would happen was way off. They had me change into a hospital gown and then hooked up the external fetal monitors to my belly. As I settled into the bed I could hear Wesley's heartbeat going nice and strong and began to feel a lot better. The nurse let me know that they would monitor him for a while to make sure that he wasn't going into distress and then left me in the room. I should note that at this time, I haven't called Casey or my parents or my other sister; I didn't want anyone to worry needlessly so until I knew for sure he was okay, I wasn't going to let anyone know where I was. My sister was able to come back at this point and we sat around chatting, just waiting for the nurse to come back and let me go. The next time she came in she said that Wes was doing really well, but she was wondering if I knew that I was having contractions. I told her that I thought that I had been having false-labor contractions all weekend, mainly just back tension and pain, but that was all. She wanted to see if I was dilated, and to my surprise, I was dilated to a three. She called my doctor and it was decided that I would be given a medication to slow/stop the contractions. I knew that at this point I had to call Casey while my sister called my parents and other sister to let them know where I was and what was going on. The medication was going to take a couple of hours to take full effect, so I called Casey knowing it wasn't going to be a good call. He left his class and i had to tell him that I was in the hospital, dilated to a three and having fairly consistent contractions. I told him about the medication and that we were waiting to see if that would work to get the contractions to stop or slow. We looked at trying to get him back home that night but all of the flights leaving that evening had extended layovers and wouldn't get him back to Utah until the next morning. So we decided to see what would happen with the medication and look at getting him on a plane the next morning if we needed to. So we settled in to wait; my parents both came by the hospital to wait with us by this time. So we waited. And waited. And I kept having contractions. So we waited some more. And I kept having contractions. At about five, my doctor came by to check my himself and I was checked again, still a three, and he wanted to try me on a different medication to stop/slow the contractions. If they became less consistent or if they stopped I could go home, otherwise he wanted to keep me overnight to make sure that i didn't progress into full blown labor. So I was given the first pill, waited and checked, given the second pill waited some more, and then given the third pill when it was decided that the contractions were still coming so I had to spend the night. I'm going to stop here for now...I thought that I would be able to finish this post but it's a loooonnnggg story, so it's going to end up being a three-part story.

Countdown to Wesley...pt. 1
This week has been, interesting, I guess is the way to put it. On Monday, I took Casey to the airport. He has to attend three weeks of practical application/training to complete his nuclear certification for work. It was hard to remain stoic and I don't think I actually did that well. We stopped to get gas before we headed to the airport, and while I wasn't actually crying from the house to the gas station, I was fighting it. I went inside the gas station to get Casey a drink and headed to the counter to pay and the clerk asked if it was a rough day already (just about 8 in the morning). I started crying and couldn't stop so Casey finally saw that I was crying. I told him I was worried about him and he said he was worried about me, and we reassured each other we would be fine. After I dropped him off at the airport, I drove home and tried to nap with the dogs and wait to hear if Casey had made it to Ohio. That night, he let me know that he was in his hotel room and that the flights were fairly drama free, except for arm-hogging neighbors and one of his pieces of luggage not making the connecting flight from Detroit to Columbus at the same time he did. But, he made it safely and that was the important part.
On Tuesday I had my doctor's appointment. In the three weeks from my last appointment to Tuesday, I gained 3 pounds and Wesley gained 1. He was 5 pounds and 15 ounces as of that appointment, head down, and laying against the right side of my belly. But he is doing well, still measuring large, but in good health with a strong heartbeat. I stopped at the craft store on my way home and finally found a Classic Pooh print fabric so I can make a bumper for Wesley's crib. I spent a couple of hours at the craft store, which I seem to do every time there, and came home. I talked to Casey that evening to let him know about the appointment and to see how his first day of classes went.
This is a big post, bigger than I thought, so I am going to break it up into a couple of posts. So I will end here for right now and continue the story in the next post.
